Dairy farming has been part of agriculture for thousands of years. There are over 264 million dairy cows’ world-wide, producing nearly 600 million tonnes of milk every year. India has the greatest number of dairy cows in the world with over 40 million cows.
Increasing milk production is critical to meet domestic demand; however, it is constrained by insufficient animal feed and fodder, lack of adequate veterinary support and breeding services, less land due to urban sprawl, and poor farm management.
It is important to remember Commercial Dairy Farming is a business. Therefore, application of modern scientific knowledge along with traditional animal husbandry holds the key to a viable "Commercial Dairy Farming" business venture.
